Yoga Beyond the Asanas

What’s  on my mind.

First I find it necessary to break the notion that yoga is for the flexible.  NO!  Yoga is to help the un flexible find flexibility both mentally, emotionally and physically.  I am frustrated daily by yoga magazines and studios that foc
us on the lean, limber “yoga” Body.  What does a yoga body look like anyway?  This is not my idea of yoga, although impressive as it may be, this is a display
of the ability of a small percent of our population.  There is a greater percent of our population that will NEVER attain this degree of ROM no matter how much yoga they do.  And there is a large percentage of people out there that will NEVER try yoga because of images like these.

My hope is to move beyond the stigma of what Yoga looks like and help you to find a yoga-expression that is functional, purposeful and true to the needs of your own body, but more importantly to find a yoga Expression that is safe.

What is your Yoga Expression?  I guarantee it is not the same as mine, so we will explore the asana in action, the function of the asana (intention as well as the energetic action and movement of the pose) and it’s relevance to the practice as well as move beyond the asana.

Question me, challenge me.  I am passing on information that I have gained from many wonderful teachers, thru many years of practice, observation and on going study.  We will NOT be looking at proper alignment or form.  It is my strong belief that we each have been given a body with unique qualities and abilities that may at times not be best served by alignment standards set by someone else.

As I learned from my NIA training, we each are born with an internal personal trainer (IPT), lets wake the IPT up in each of us.

My intention is to teach a yoga that is functional for everyday and for  every BODY and that helps heal and restore the body, mind and spirit.  It is my effort to break the notion that yoga is for the flexible, the balanced, the strong, the young and the bendy.  It is a practice available to everyBODY and it is going to look different from one body to the next.

What is your YogaExpression?  Let’s find out!  Please feel free to email me or share your thoughts on my post.  Let’s learn and grow together.

Purpose To give you a brief glimpse into this indepth yoga study moving beyond the asanas.  This portion is free for you to use, browse and share.  Soon I will have online Workshops for you to purchase that will dive deeper into the issues presented here  as we explore Yoga beyond the asanas. My hope is to then have a two week intensive for those that have completed the work in an effort to really explore and share our experience.   I often  refer to today’s athlete in my post and I need to define what this means.  It is anyone looking to improve the function of their body, their mind, and their spirit

Take time to pause and think about Where you want to go in your practice, not where you think you should be.  Don't let the demand  exceed your capacity and ability in this moment.
